Go Thread Ring Gages
The go thread ring gauge is used to check the external thread’s “mating size” and screw-on capability. It does this by checking the external thread pitch diameter’s greatest dimension, including some thread form deviations, such as pitch and thread profile angle deviations. If the straight flank piece is not long enough, the external thread root curve will extend too far into the profile flank, and this is checked as part of the manufacturing process. There is no check on the root curve. Aside from the minor diameter, this gauge does not attempt to measure the major diameter
No-Go Thread Ring Gages
A no-go thread ring gauge is required to determine whether the actual pitch diameter of the work’s external thread falls below the specified smallest size. This test does not examine the external thread’s main and minor diameters.
No-go thread ring gauge has at least three threads in its length. An unfinished crest adorns the thread profile. If the no-go thread gauge shows excessive wear, it should be checked more frequently. This gauge cannot be screwed into the workpiece thread more than two threads without pressure.
